Seattle Attic news: 14 May 2013
May. 15th, 2013 12:58 amHello, everyone!
The Seattle Attic Community Workshop is getting closer and closer to being up and running! In the last two weeks, we have:
-rented a sweet suite on the top floor of Seattle's historic Pioneer Building
-begun to fill said suite with important items: teakettle, mini-library, miscellaneous electronics, sewing machine...
-chosen an initial board of directors and selected awesome officers
-legally incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in WA!
We are all excited to get this thing up, running, and growing. So what's next? Community, fun stuff, and tying up legal and financial ends.
Within the next month, we'll start having potluck Open Evenings that anyone can attend. They're for prospective members and other community members to check out the space, meet our members, and find out more about us (and eat tasty food). If you are interested in membership, attending one of these and talking to current members is your first step. Our space is wheelchair accessible and close to the many bus lines that run through Pioneer Square and the bus tunnel.
We're launching an indiegogo campaign in a month or so to raise money for renovations, furniture, equipment, fancy toys (3-D printer! drum carder!), and suchlike. Rewards will include items made by our talented members. We are in the process of getting fiscal sponsorship from the School Factory, a 501(c)3 organization. Donations made through them will be tax deductible, including donations of major equipment.
We are still furnishing the space. We could use: chairs, desks, a couch or two, shelving, a minifridge, a microwave or two, and power strips. If you would like to donate any of these, please comment here or email info@seattleattic.com.
